Update: WYC’s website has won the RYA’s Communication Award 2004

The brief

Whitstable Yacht Club wanted to revitalise their existing website in order to better reflect the activities and events it carries out. Communicating effectively to the club’s thriving membership and promoting it to potential new members were both a high priority. The club’s administration staff would also need to be able to update key pages presenting race results and catering details.

The solution

A new start was the way forward. Tinderhouse redesigned the website together with rationalising the information architecture. Content from the previous website was edited and repurposed.

A publishing system was developed to facilitate the updating of race results and other timely information.

The underlying technologies used allow the website to reach the widest audience possible. The use of XHTML and CSS (in accordance with web standards) make it possible for users to access the site on web-enabled phone, PDAs, wap phone and screen readers.

The benefit

Whitstable Yacht Club now has a firm footing from which to build their web presense. Club members can review the latest race results for all sailing events with ease. The improvements made to the website will allow non-local members to be kept abreast with activities of the club.
